The research project analyses nine post-seismic reconstruction experiences implemented in the Italian context over the last fifty years, focusing on the interpretation of the outcomes of reconstruction actions from the point of view of the conservation of pre-existing historical buildings, thus taking into consideration both minor and specialized/monumental buildings.
One of the aspects analysed in the research is the evolution of the damage survey modules understood as an unavoidable step for the start of the reconstruction process. Since the 1980s, specific damage survey forms have been prepared in Italy for monumental buildings and churches. Using these forms, a field survey of some of the churches most damaged by the earthquake that struck the province of Heraklion in September 2021 was carried out in order to identify the most recurring damage in a sample of typologically representative churches. In line with these themes, the student is part of the working group led by Prof. Caterina F. Carocci that, within ReLUIS (Network of University Laboratories of Earthquake and Structural Engineering), is dealing with the study of the damage occurred to churches hit by the earthquake in Central Italy in 2016 in order to determine the effectiveness of previous consolidation interventions carried out on the roofs.
